Browns Insider Reveals Major Injury Update On Deshaun Watson
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson seems to be making great progress in his recovery from shoulder surgery.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Watson may begin light throwing as soon as Tuesday.

Watson underwent surgery back in November for a displaced fracture in his right shoulder socket. He has been rehabbing in Los Angeles. Tight end David Njoku has flown out to California to work with Watson this week, as has Watson’s private quarterbacks coach Quincy Avery.

The 28-year-old played in six games this past season, throwing for 1,115 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 84.3.

The Browns initially acquired Watson in a blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans back in March 2022 and proceeded to hand him a massive $230 million contract that was fully guaranteed.

He served an 11-game suspension during his debut campaign in Cleveland as a result of sexual misconduct allegations. When he actually got on the field for the Browns in 2022, he was not too impressive, totaling 1,102 yards, seven touchdowns and five picks while completing 58.2 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 79.1.

Watson has gone 8-4 in his 12 starts. He went 5-1 this past year.

The Clemson product was originally selected by the Texans with the 12th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft and spent the first five years of his career in Houston, although he sat out all of 2021 due to the allegations.

During his first four seasons with the Texans, Watson made three straight Pro Bowl appearances between 2018 and 2020 and led the league with 4,823 passing yards in the latter campaign.

When he is right, Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in football, but whether or not he can regain his previous form remains to be seen.

Deshaun Watson’s last full season was all the way back in 2020.

Cleveland went 11-6 and made the playoffs under the direction of Joe Flacco this past year. It then lost to Houston in the Wild Card Round.
