Bills select speedster to replace Stefon Diggs in latest mock draft

The Bills have a glaring need at wide receiver after trading Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans on Wednesday and losing Gabe Davis to the Jaguars in free agency.

Curtis Samuel, who just joined the team from Washington this offseason, Khalil Shakir, a fifth-round pick in 2022, and 30-year-old Mack Hollins now highlight Buffalo's wide receiver room.

That's why ESPN's Field Yates projects the team will add a playmaker with its first-round pick in his latest mock draft.

The Bills currently own the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and while some believe they could move up to land one of the draft's top prospects, Yates has them staying pat and selecting speedy Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

"Buffalo is another team I have flagged as a potential trade-up candidate. But there will also be options available at No. 28 given the class' depth," Yates writes. "Worthy has excellent tracking skills on vertical passes down the field, too, helping him to 1,014 yards last season. I'm envisioning Josh Allen moon shots thrown to a wide-open Worthy."

It's not difficult to envision Worthy being wide-open. He is the definition of speed after running the fastest 40-yard dash (4.21 seconds) in NFL Scouting Combine history.

The 20-year-old isn't just a speedster. Over the past three seasons, he led the Big 12 in receiving yards (2,755) and touchdowns (26).

Adding Worthy to Buffalo's offense could create one of the most dangerous duos between him and QB Josh Allen, who has arguably the strongest arm in the NFL.

The Bills could also still dip into the free agency pool, which is highlighted by former Raven Odell Beckham Jr., former Bengal Tyler Boyd, and former Saint Michael Thomas. But adding any of those veterans wouldn't prevent Buffalo from adding another playmaker like Worthy in this year's draft.
