Golf best bets: Jack Dougherty's 3 top props for The Masters

Austin Ekroat was one stroke away from giving us a 2-1 record in props at the Valero Texas Open, but we did cash a +250 on Akshay Bhatia to finish inside the top 20. Apparently, we should've been more aggressive with that one, as Bhatia went on to win the tournament in the playoff.

The real fun starts this week with The Masters tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. You might've heard of it. Let's kick off major season the right way with three props for The Masters.

Cameron Young top-20 finish (+150 FanDuel)

We don't feel comfortable betting Cameron Young to pick up his first professional win at The Masters, but he should be in store for a strong finish at Augusta.

The 26-year-old is striping his irons right now, as he ranks 30th on the PGA Tour this season in strokes gained on approach and second in approaches from 175-200 yards. He also nukes his driver and can move the ball both ways to cut off some of these severe doglegs. Young has four top-20 finishes in his last six starts and four top-10s in his last seven major championship appearances. Coming off a T7 finish at Augusta last year, Young is a great target for a top-20 bet this week.

Tournament matchup: Cameron Smith > Collin Morikawa (+100 ESPN BET)

Sticking to the Cameron theme, let's roll with Smith to outperform Morikawa this week.

Morikawa is a prime fade candidate for the 2024 Masters because his swing is completely lost right now. The normally elite iron player has lost strokes on approach in three straight starts for the first time in his career. He also ranks 164th out of 186 players this season in strokes gained from putting, which is nothing new for the American. Augusta isn't the place where you find your game, so don't be surprised if Morikawa misses the cut.

Smith is a great fit for this golf course, as evidenced by his three top-10 finishes in his last four Masters starts. The Australian has a brilliant short game that helps him work around these tricky greens, and he can get scorching hot with his irons. Smith's biggest issue is his erratic driver, but Augusta is friendly off the tee with its wide fairways and minimal rough.

Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler to make the cut parlay (+104 FD)

Woods won't be anywhere near our outright or finishing position cards this week, but we do like his chances of at least making the cut. The key to success at Augusta National is experience and course knowledge, and the five-time Masters champion has plenty of that. He can also set the record for the most consecutive cuts made at The Masters (24) this year, and you know he'll be motivated to make history. And who doesn't want to root for Tiger at Augusta?

Scottie Scheffler to make the cut is the surest bet on the board this week, and adding him to a parlay gets us to +104 odds.
